If you're
recovering from an accident, illness, injury or stroke, you
can benefit from Cabrini's unique approach to rehabilitation
medicine. Each patient is managed by a team of specialists
who will coordinate every aspect of your recovery.
Led by
specialist physicians (physiatrists) the team includes registered
nurses, physical and occupational therapists, social workers,
nutritionists and speech-language pathologists.
They
collaborate to assess and treat patients, as well as help
patients and family members develop safety and self-care skills.
Physical
Therapy helps patients develop the strength, flexibility
and endurance they need to increase their self-sufficiency.
Occupational
Therapy is provided in simulated bathrooms, kitchen
and offices to retrain patients in self-care, homemaking and
work skills.
Our Speech
Language Pathology Department assesses and treats
patients with speech or language impairments and swallowing
disorders, as well as those who have tracheotomies or are
ventilator-dependent.
The Rehab
Team can also draw on the total resources of Cabrini including
Surgery, Pain
Management and Psychiatry.
Rehabilitation
is provided either on an outpatient basis at 233 Third Avenue
(between 19th and 20th Streets) or in our 25-bed inpatient
unit. Patients who are discharged from the hospital but require
additional therapy are referred to the Rehabilitation medical
