If your
cancer develops in your blood, bone marrow or lymph nodes,
Cabrini offers both Bone Marrow Transplants and Stem Cell
Transplants.
Cabrini
physicians are experts in "autologous" Bone Marrow
Transplants, where a portion of the patient's bone marrow
is removed, frozen and re-introduced after chemotherapy.
A more
recent procedure, Stem Cell Transplants, consists of harvesting
stem cells from the bloodstream and returning them to the
patient after chemotherapy. This obviates the need for painful
procedures to obtain bone marrow from the hip.
