Since
1983, Cabrini's Radiotherapy Department has been a vital part
of our commitment to the fight against cancer. As always,
we continue to be on the forefront of medical technology.
Our latest
high-tech equipment includes a Simulator and a computerized
3-D Planning System which let the Radiation Oncologist see
the region of a tumor and precisely "map out" the
area to be treated before initiating the actual treatment.
This allows radiation to reach the tumor, while protecting
the surrounding normal tissue.
We use
a range of other cutting-edge equipment, including a Linear
Accelerator that produces x-rays of varying intensities to
optimally treat tumors at all depths. Also, prostate brachytherapy
is performed on selected patients using radioactive seeds.
Of course,
at Cabrini, technology is not a substitute for humanity. In
keeping with the guiding principles of Mother Cabrini, our
doctors, nurses and staff are always there to provide emotional
support and spiritual guidance through all stages of a patient's
cancer treatment.
